Who Needs Ghostbusters 3. Just 'Watch' Ghostbusters: The Video Game

With the prospect of a Ghostbusters 3 looking less and less likely, Ghostheads wanting more from the boys in grey do have one option; 2009's Ghostbusters: The Video Game.

Technically, Ghostbusters: The Video Game IS "Ghostbusters 3".  Taking placing two years after Ghostbusters 2, the game brings the voice talents of the original cast and fits well within the mythology of the original film, going so far as actually extending it.

You're not really into gaming you say?  Don't worry.  Ghostbusters fan Timothy Belanger, took it upon himself to recut the game into a full length, watchable movie.  You can watch the first half of the 2 hour, 40 minute "film" above and the second half after the break.

Enjoy :)

PSAs of Panem for The Hunger Games

So I know in my last "Hunger Games-centric" post, I came across slightly condescending.  Well to all you Hunger Games fans out there, I'd like to apologize, because I've since seen the new movie and am now in the middle of the second book, Catching Fire.  I am hooked.

Things brings me to this post.  While combing my Twitter feed this morning I noticed something from the folks over at CollegeHumor.  They've put together a series of rather humorous PSA posters that could be found throughout Panem, promoting the Hunger Games.

As you can see, there are many cues from the new film, but a couple that probably make more sense if you've read the first novel.

You can check out larger versions of these by clicking on the thumbnails above, and be sure to check out the rest after the jump.

New Man of Steel Banner & Logo Revealed

The Facebook page of Zach Synder's Superman movie, Man of Steel, unveiled the film's new logo/banner today.  You can check out a larger version by clicking on the above picture.

The film, which will be released June 14, 2013, stars Henry Cavil as Superman/Clark Kent and Amy Adams as Lois Lane. The cast also includes, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Diane Lane and Kevin Costner as Martha and Jonathan Kent, Michael Shannon as General Zod, Antje Trauend as Faora, Zod's evil partner, Ayelet Zurer as Lara Lor-Van, Superman's Kryptonian mother, and Russel Crowe as his Kryptonian father, Jor-El.

I actually really like the look of the new "S" shield.  It has a very modern design, while retaining a very classic look.

What do you think?  Do you like the new logo?  Do you wish they would have stayed with a more classic design?  Let me know what you think in the comments below.

The Dr. Seuss Alphabet

society6 artist, Mike Boon, has number of art prints, which fashion certain characters after letters of the alphabet.  His latest work is based on characters from the Dr. Seuss universe.

Nerd Art: Zombie Ewok

Artist Austin Madison came up with this piece, entitled "The Ewoking Dead".  As gruesome as it is, I actually like how the artwork closely resembles the art of The Walking Dead comic series.

But in all "actuality", Ewoks don't really need to be zombies to eat people.  They were going to make a feast out of Luke, Han and Chewbacca.  And if you follow the tweets of the Death Star PR team, then you should already know how vicious these little guys can be.

You can check out a larger version by clicking on the image above.

Stay nerdy my friends...

Doctor Who Series 7 Teaser Trailer

BBC has just released the first preview trailer for the upcoming seventh series of Doctor Who.  The trailer shows off footage from what is most likely the first half of the series, featuring the Ponds, and not The Doctor's newly announced companion.

I can't wait for the new series to start and I love the Dalek tease towards the very end.

Be sure to check out the trailer above and let me know what you think in the comments below.

Hunger-Lypics Tee

I'll admit, I haven't the slightest clue why the Hunger Games is gearing up to be so popular, but I've seen commercial after commercial and people reading the books left and right.

Anyway, I thought this was a pretty cool t-shirt design over at  If your interested, you can head on over and purchase it for just $10.  However, you only have until the end of the day before the shirt is gone FOR-EV-ER....

iPhone 4S Mod Adds Glowing Apple Logo & Flashlight Headphone Jack

Last September, iPatch iPods developed a method of modding existing iPhone 4 and 4S's to allow the Apple logo on the back of the phone to be backlight, similar to what's seen on MacBooks.  While still quite not ready for public availability, it hasn't stopped them from showing off a new feature that transforms the headphone jack into a flashlight...which remains fully functional btw.

No word on final pricing, but initial estimates for just the backlighting mod ran between $79 - $158 US, depending on mass production costs.  Word is they are also currently working on a fibre optic headphone cable that "would give you illuminated cables in different colors".

If interested, you can check out some more details at iPatch's site here.  You can also check out a video of the mod in action after the break.

What do you think?  Would you be willing to void your warranty?

Let me know what you think in the comments below.

New Companion Announced for Doctor Who

This morning, the BBC announced that Jenna-Louise Coleman will be joining the cast of Doctor Who as the new full time companion of the 11th Doctor.  Jenna will be stepping in after Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill's "heartbreaking departure" during Series 7, which is expected to debut this fall.

Jenna's debut will take place during the annual Christmas special, where "The Doctor will meet his new friend in a dramatic turn of events as the show builds towards its enormous, climactic 50th anniversary year."
"I'm beyond excited, I can't wait to get cracking; working alongside Matt I know is going to be enormous fun and a huge adventure." said Jenna.
In today's press release, showrunner Steven Moffat, had this to say about Jenna:
It always seems impossible when you start casting these parts, but when we saw Matt and Jenna together, we knew we had our girl. She’s funny and clever and exactly mad enough to step on board the TARDIS. It’s not often the Doctor meets someone who can talk even faster than he does, but it’s about to happen. Jenna is going to lead him his merriest dance yet. And that’s all you’re getting for now. Who she’s playing, how the Doctor meets her, and even where he finds her, are all part of one of the biggest mysteries the Time Lord ever encounters. Even by the Doctor’s standards, this isn’t your usual boy meets girl.
Little else is known about the upcoming series, but Moffat did comment on the circumstances in which the Ponds will make their exit during the 5th episode after an encounter with the Weeping Angels: "Not everyone gets out alive, and I mean it this time."

It was also revealed that Series 7 will comprise of 14 "blockbuster-movie episodes"; six of which will appear in 2012, while the remaining eight will be shown during 2013.

I'm pretty excited by the news and I look forward to seeing what Jenna brings to the show.

You can check out the official press release, along with a quick BBC interview with Jenna regarding the announcement after the break.

UPDATE: Michael Bay Hints at Alien Origins for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Film

Last week, Platinum Dunes announced that their Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot would be released on Christmas Day, 2013.  It now appears that, while speaking at Nickelodeon's Upfront 2012 in New York, producer Michael Bay hinted at a possible alien original for the Turtles:
When you see this movie, kids are going to believe, one day, that these turtles actually do exist when we are done with this movie. These turtles are from an alien race and they are going to be tough, edgy, funny and completely lovable.
The film, which is expected to be directed by Jonathan Liebesman, is rumored to bring the Turtles back to their darker, grittier roots that was presented in the original Eastman and Laird's comic series.  If this change to their origin is made, they can't really be called mutant ninja turtles anymore now can they?

Now, I've never really had a problem with Michael Bay. I know there's a lot of animosity towards him over the Transformers franchise, but to-date, I've relatively enjoyed those films. However, if he pushes this change through, he will be in for a world of hurt from many fans that grew up in the 80s and 90s. My hope is that Bay doesn't really know what he's talking about and just isn't familiar with the actual original of the heroes in a half shell...but, to be honest, I'm not really sure that is any better considering he's producing.

UPDATE:  Michael Bay has responded to the fan outrage on his official site:
Fans need to take a breath, and chill. They have not read the script. Our team is working closely with one of the original creators of Ninja Turtles to help expand and give a more complex back story. Relax, we are including everything that made you become fans in the first place. We are just building a richer world.
Not sure how to exactly take this and it's weird that he didn't mention Eastman or Laird by name.

What do you think?  Are you completely against the idea of changing such an integral part of the Turtles story?

Let me know what you think in the comments below.

Teaser Trailer for The Walking Dead Game

After last month's sneak peak at the upcoming game for The Walking Dead, Telltale Games has released a brand new teaser trailer.

The trailer doesn't show too much, but sets the tone of the game which will be released in "episodes", similar to Telltale's Back to the Future game.  The first episode is said to take place around Atlanta while Rick is still in his coma and will follow the storyline presented in the comics, rather than the AMC series.

What do you think of the trailer?  Does it make you excited about the game?  Wish they would've shown a bit more?

Let me know what you think in the comments below.

Bebop & Rocksteady Take the Night Off

If you don't know who Bebop and Rocksteady are, then you had a horrible childhood and I feel sorry for you.  I'm not sure what the story is behind these costumes, but I won't question it.

Be sure to check out a couple more pics of Shredder's boneheaded minions enjoying some adult beverages after the break.

Make Your Own Shamrock Shakes

If you're one of those people that looks forward to McDonald's seasonal Shamrock Shake, well you'll now be able to enjoy their minty goodness all year round.

Bethany Nixon of Reware Vintage, posted a recipe created by her husband Dan, which is not only super simple, but supposedly tastes pretty close to the real thing.

What you'll need:
    • 1 cup vanilla ice cream
    • 1/3 cup milk
    • 4 drops of peppermint extract
    • 3 drops of green food dye

Simply mix all the ingredients in a milkshake maker or blender and enjoy.  Whipped cream and cherry are optional.

Make sure to knock a few out this coming weekend in remembrance of Uncle O'Grimacey.

Real Life Batman Helps Fight Crime in Brazilian City

Former soldier, Andre Luiz Pinheiro, has been hired to patrol the streets of Taubate, Brazil...dressed as the Batman.

Local officials have agreed to let the 50 year-old Pinheiro "help" combat the Brazilian city's crime.  While details of the arrangement are still being ironed out of his cape, it's unlikely Pinheiro will assist in the taking down of murderers and drug traffickers.  Instead, the Brazilian Bat will most likely play a more indirect role in a social and educational crime prevention project which is planned to target children of the city.
I am eager to know how we can work together. If I can help bring the story to even one child, that would be very nice.
My only concern is escalation.  Escalation you ask?  Well, what if Brazilian police start carrying semi automatics, criminals buy automatics;  the police start wearing Kevlar, criminals buy armor piercing rounds.  Now Pinheiro is wearing a mask and jumping off rooftops...

Before you know it, we have a Brazilian Joker on our hands... :)

Joss Whedon Still Has Hope for Firefly

I'll admit upfront that I was a little late to the Firefly party, having just watched the entire series and film in the last year.  However, I became instantly hooked and somewhat saddened by the fact that there is no more past the movie...stupid FOX.

For most fans, the hope is that SOMEONE will pick up the show and give it another chance.  Well, we can all take solace in the fact that we're not alone in our feelings, as the show's creator, Joss Whedon, still has hope for the show.

The director of the upcoming The Avengers, recently spoke at SXSW mentioning his hopes that one day we'll all see our favorite Serenity crew again:
I keep thinking they’re going to call me, crunch the numbers and say ‘Hey, we can make money from this!’ — but they don’t.

I would never rule it out, I love those people. But I can’t just wait by the phone.
It's been 10 years since we last saw Serenity fly through the 'Verse, so where would the story continue if the show did get picked back up?  I kinda like the idea from the folks over at Geeks of Doom, suggesting that the story pick up 10 years after the events of Serenity...although I wouldn't mind ignoring Serenity's storyline just as long as we could get Wash back :)

If the show did get picked back up (and that's a BIG 'if'), where would you like it to pick up from?  Let me know what think in the comments below.

UPDATE: TARDIS Inspired Diamond Ring

Last month I made a quick post about a custom made Decepticon engagement ring.  Well I've just run across something that might even top that...well if you're a Doctor Who fan that is.

Above is a custom diamond ring made by patheticperipatetic, who posted it over on the Doctor Who Official Tumblr:
I was bored and made this. Its a TARDIS based ring with a tension set 1CT Princess Cut center stone. The three round stones is the Police Box sign, the two sets of four baguettes symbolize the windows, and a small princess cut below that to symbolize the instructions found on the front of the Police Box.
If you're a Who-fan, you'll understand the description.  If you're not, WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!? ;)

UPDATE:  patheticperipatetic has just updated his Tumblr addressing the demand for the TARDIS ring:
If any of you are interested in purchasing the Police Box ring, please let me know (via Tumblr messages) so I can gather a better idea of how many I need made. If you are not on Tumblr, please email me at

You can check out a rotating 360 degree view of the ring after the break.

Don't Give Old People Technology Without Explaining It

Below is the translation of what is going on in this scene, but you could probably figure out what's going on without it.

Daughter: Dad, I meant to ask you, how do you get along with the new iPad that we gave you as a birthday present?
Dad: Good.
Daughter: You also get along with all those apps?
Dad: What apps? Can you please move a little bit …. so ….. What?

LEGO Space Shuttle 'Launched' into Space

Romanian, Raul Oaida, put together a little tribute honoring the end of the space shuttle program...LEGO style.
The launch took place from central Germany (easy flight clearance) and reached a max altitude of 35000m. A 1600g meteo balloon filled with helium was used alongside a GoPro Hero, Spot GPS and of course Lego Space Shuttle model 3367.
We launched it on the 31st of December 2011, the equipment was recovered via GPS tracking 240 km S-E from a remote area.
The video is a little on the long side, but it's really cool to think that a LEGO model of the space shuttle actually hit the stars.

Toy Shining: The Toy Story/The Shining Mashup

UK Illustrator, Kyle Lambert, wanted to create a storyboard mash up of Toy Story and The Shining.  So, that's just what he did, calling it Toy Shining.
Earlier this year I began following Lee Unkrich, the director of Toy Story 3) on Twitter (@leeunkrich). As well as his journey to the Oscars with Toy Story 3, Lee often tweets about his passion for Stanley Kubrick and the movie The Shining which inspired him to pursue a career in filmmaking. Having seen both The Shining and Toy Story 3 for the first time recently myself, I thought it would be cool idea to mash the two movies together as a fun side project.
It started off with a few notes on a post-it describing how the two movies could be combined and quickly grew into a 25 panel storyboard. Once I had sketched each composition I set about painting the panels with my iPad using the Brushes app. The project took around 2 months to complete in my spare time from idea to the finished storyboard.
Coincidently, towards the end of the project I was invited to visit the Pixar Studio for the day by one of their artists Don Shank and thought it would be a great opportunity to deliver a printed version of the project to Lee in person.
Click on the image above for a closer look at the storyboard and if you want an even closer look of each panel, you can check them out at Kyle's site here.

New Trailer for Men in Black III

Columbia Pictures has just released a brand new trailer for the third installment of the Men in Black series, which stars Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones and Josh Brolin.
Agents J (Smith) and K (Jones) are back... in time. J has seen some inexplicable things in his 15 years with the Men in Black, but nothing, not even aliens, perplexes him as much as his wry, reticent partner. But when K's life and the fate of the planet are put at stake, Agent J will have to travel back in time to put things right. J discovers that there are secrets to the universe that K never told him -- secrets that will reveal themselves as he teams up with the young Agent K (Brolin) to save his partner, the agency, and the future of humankind.
While Men in Black II was a disappointment, I still really enjoy the first movie.  I'll give this film a shot and hope it doesn't just reuse a lot of the same gags from the first two movies.  It should go without saying though, Josh Brolin is spot on in his Tommy Lee Jones impersonation.

Men in Black III will be released May 25th, and also features Jemaine Clement, Emma Thompson, Nicole Scherzinger, Alice Eve and Michael Stuhlbarg.

Stop Motion Intro to 1987's Ninja Turtle's Cartoon

I love me some stop motion and I love me some turtles. Thankfully, Kyle Roberts decided to take advantage of the awesome and super articulated NECA TMNT figures that came out a few years back.

What's even more awesome is that he decided to remake the entire opening sequence to the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon series.
With over 4,000 individual pictures, Kyle Roberts and crew wanted to recreate the nostalgic 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon introduction in stop motion. Artist, Nathan Poppe, created over 60 hand-drawn images to establish a bright and vibrant backdrop to complement Roberts' use of action figures. The original TMNT theme song was covered by Oklahoma native band, The Boom Bang, in their "garage surf punk" style. Each of these pieces can stand alone by themselves, but when infused together they create a radical tribute.
If interested, I've also included their behind-the-scenes vignette after the break showing the process that was used creating the totally tubular short.

Trailer for Tim Burton's Frankenweenie

Walt Disney Pictures has just released the first trailer for Tim Burton's remake of his beloved Frankenweenie.  The original 29 min short debuted in 1984, starring Shelly Duvall, Daniel Stern and The Neverending Story's Barret Oliver.

The updated black and white, stop-motion adaptation features voices from Winona Ryder, Martin Short, Catherine O'Hara, Martin Landau, Charlie Tahan, Atticus Shaffer, Robert Capron and Conchata Ferrell.
After unexpectedly losing his beloved dog Sparky, young Victor harnesses the power of science to bring his best friend back to life—with just a few minor adjustments. He tries to hide his home-sewn creation, but when Sparky gets out, Victor's fellow students, teachers and the entire town all learn that getting a new "leash on life" can be monstrous
Frankenweenie will open in 3D and 2D theaters on October 5.

What do you think of the trailer?  Are you excited for Burton's updated adaptation?  Let me know what you think in the comments below.

Behind the Scene Photos of Heath Ledger on Set of The Dark Knight

Make-up artist John Caglione Jr. has just released some never-before-seen photos of Heath Ledger on the set of 2008's The Dark Knight as The Joker.  Caglione Jr. was Ledger's personal make-up artist on set and took these during filming.  The above photo was Ledger's last day on set.

Be sure to check out some additional photos after the break, which show Ledger taking the role super seriously.
